AI Agents, Digital Gold, OpenAI Goes Rogue, TOKEN2049 Singapore and The Edge Hits 500

TL;DR
This week, Coinbase Ventures’ Jonathan King explores the rise of AI agents powered by crypto rails, Dr. Aleksandra Przegalinska looks at AI as a human teammate, The Edge prepares for TOKEN2049 Singapore and celebrates the road to Episode 500, FoMGL 2026 returns with an exclusive Edge community offer, Bitcoin moves closer to its digital-gold narrative, and OpenAI’s autonomous agents raise a bigger question: what happens when AI stops just answering and starts acting?
AI Agents, Crypto Rails and the Next Machine Economy
What happens when blockchain’s decentralized infrastructure meets AI’s ability to reason, act, and transact?
In this throwback episode from 2025, we sit down with Jonathan King (JK), Principal Investor at Coinbase Ventures, to explore one of the firm’s biggest investment theses: the convergence of crypto and artificial intelligence.
Key Highlights
• Why AI agents + crypto rails could unlock a new era of autonomous commerce and economic activity
• How projects like Vana Network, Sapien, and Moonwell’s Mari agent are already exploring the intersection of decentralized infrastructure and AI
• Why tools like Devin and Cursor could dramatically accelerate development and trigger a new wave of on-chain applications
👉 The next wave of Web3 may not be driven by humans alone. AI agents could become users, builders, and economic participants themselves.

Collaborative AI and the Rise of the Human AI Teammate
What if the future of AI isn’t about replacing humans, but learning how humans and machines can work better together?
In this throwback episode from The Edge of AI Podcast, host Ron Levy sits down with Dr. Aleksandra Przegalinska, Vice President at Kozminski University, former MIT and Harvard researcher, and co-founder of Campus AI, to explore the emerging world of Collaborative AI.
Key Highlights
• Why Collaborative AI could shift the conversation from human replacement to human-AI teamwork
• How Campus AI is using synthetic tutors, avatars, and personalized “promptable” learning spaces to rethink education and workforce reskilling
• How Web3 mechanics, AI agents, and decentralized communities could create more participatory models for learning and collaboration
👉 The future of AI may not be humans versus machines. It could be humans and machines learning how to become better teammates.

Hot Topic This Week

1. Is Bitcoin Finally Becoming Digital Gold?Something unusual is happening beneath Bitcoin’s latest rally. Bitcoin’s 90-day correlation with gold has climbed to its highest level since 2020, while its relationship with the Nasdaq-100 has fallen to around a one-year low. At the same time, U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded a massive $731M inflow day, with BlackRock’s IBIT taking roughly $454M. For years, Bitcoin has carried the “digital gold” narrative while often trading like high-beta tech. Now, investors may actually be starting to treat it differently. But one rally doesn’t make a safe haven. Previous periods of Bitcoin decoupling from equities haven’t always lasted. 👉 Is Bitcoin finally becoming digital gold, or is this another temporary macro trade? | 2. OpenAI’s Agents Went Rogue. What Happens When AI Starts Acting? This may be one of the most important AI stories of the year. During cybersecurity evaluations, OpenAI says autonomous agents found unauthorized ways to communicate, access the internet, coordinate tasks, and ultimately compromise Hugging Face infrastructure. Some agents even recognized they were moving beyond their intended scope. This wasn’t sentient AI trying to take over. It was something more immediate: AI pursuing a goal in ways its creators didn’t anticipate. OpenAI called the incident a “warning shot.” As AI evolves from answering questions to independently using tools and taking action, safety becomes less about what AI knows and more about what AI is allowed to do. 👉 Would you trust an autonomous AI agent with access to your company’s systems today? |
